Camberley Auto Factors Limited is the largest independent Motor Factor in the South of England. We are distributors of Motor Components and Accessories to all areas of the automotive aftermarket, comprising garages, workshops, fitting stations and accessory shops. We achieve this via our extensive network of branches, currently twenty-eight, and our fleet, in excess of two hundred delivery vehicles. Our organisation is co-ordinated from our Head Office and Central Distribution Warehouse in Farnborough, Hampshire.
Camberley Auto Factors was "born" in December 1964 when our, now, Chairman, GERRY RUSSELL, and three colleagues opened a small shop at 93 Mytchett Road, Camberley. The first invoice, for £6.17.4d, was produced on the 14th December and, within a short period of time, larger premises were required: the second branch was opened at 57e Mytchett Road in 1967.
Gradually other branches were opened: Staines (Middlesex) in 1968, Basingstoke (Hampshire) in 1974 and Byfleet (Surrey) in 1978. Towards the end of 1979 the Company opened its largest operation in Hawley Lane, Farnborough incorporating a Factoring Branch, a Central Warehouse and the Company's Head Office.
1980 New branch opened in Eastleigh (Hampshire). Basingstoke branch transferred to larger premises. New Distribution Division opened at Farnborough, specialising in selling to other Motor Factors.
1981 We diversify from motor spares, introducing a new company, Midas Leisure Ltd., specialising in wholesaling Sportswear and Leisure Equipment. New CAF branch opened in Liphook (Hampshire).
1982 Branches opened in Leatherhead (Surrey) and Portsmouth (Hampshire).
1984 Branches acquired in Merrow (Guildford, Surrey) and Aldershot (Hampshire).
1985 Staines branch voted MOTOR FACTOR OF THE YEAR in nationwide poll.
1986 Two branches acquired - Kingston (Surrey) and Andover (Hampshire). CAF appointed as UK distributor for Koni shock absorbers.
1987 Further expansion of the Hawley Lane site with acquisition of additional unit. Group Head Office and Central Distribution Centre moved to their current location. A retail subsidiary, Universal Car Supplies (UCS), was acquired with a branch in Bookham (nr. Leatherhead, Surrey).
1987 The late Barry Sheene opened our retail "Superstore", THE SPARES PEOPLE, at our Farnborough location.
1989 Branch acquired in Swindon (Wiltshire). A new Commercial Vehicle Spares operation opened at Colnbrook (near Slough, Berkshire), trading as "C.V. Spares" Portsmouth branch voted "MOTOR FACTOR OF THE YEAR" in national poll.
1990 Our entire factoring division is fully computerised.
1991 The company wins the Autotrade MOTOR FACTOR OF THE YEAR Award.
1992 The Distribution division is relaunched as PARTS DIRECT LTD., with a separate business called PERFORMANCE PARTS DIRECT to handle our ever increasing performance product range. An established business acquired, giving us a branch in Hove (Sussex).
1994 Swindon branch relocated to purpose built premises. The second C.V. Spares outlet opens shortly afterwards at the same location.
1995 New branch opened in Chichester (West Sussex).
1996 Hove branch wins Auto Trade MOTOR FACTOR OF THE YEAR award. Swindon branch appointed as the Bosch distributor for Wiltshire. Staines branch relocated to a prime Town Centre location, incorporating a large retail shop.
1997 New branch opened in Salisbury (Wiltshire). Guildford branch relocated to a new site. Performance Parts Direct takes on exclusive distributorship for Ramair Filters, and launches our own brand - Megaleads ignition leads. A new computer system is installed, giving us the most modern integrated system within the aftermarket.
1998 Two dedicated Exhaust Warehouses opened in Portsmouth and Kingston. New branch opens in Reading (Berkshire), incorporating our 3rd C.V. Spares operation.
1999 Performance Parts Direct extends its portfolio by being appointed as national distributors for Tarox brake products. We go on-line with two websites, this one (www.camberleyautofactors.com) and our performance site at http://www.koni.uk.com/ Our Exhaust Warehouse network is completed with the third operation opened at Farnborough. A new branch is opened at Worthing. CAF becomes a founder-member of the U.K. Parts Alliance, a purchasing and marketing group initially comprising four of the major independent motor factors in the country.
2000 A new Technology and Training Centre is opened at our site in Mytchett. The Caftec Centre has been specifically designed to cater for the ever changing developments in vehicle technology, and our training facilities include a 'dry' engine.
2001 New branch opened at Chippenham (Wilts). New branch acquired in Bournemouth (Dorset).
2002 New branch acquired in Crawley (Sussex).
2003 Andover branch undergoes a major rebuild, which involves moving to a temporary building for 8 months, and back into a purpose built unit - all of which is done with no disruption to the day to day running of the branch.
2004 Our 40th Anniversary celebration is launched, with the objective of involving staff and customers in various activities to raise money for BeN, the Motor Trades Charity. New branch opens in Midsomer Norton, to serve the areas of Bath and North East Somerset.
2005 We open branch number 28 in Bristol. Situated right in the centre of the City, the branch covers Bristol and surrounding area. The Caftec Centre gets it's own website, http://www.caftec.net/.
2006 Our expansion continues, this time into South London, with Branch 29 opening in Croydon. We also expand our Caftec Centre by opening a secondary facility in Swindon.
2007 Fully developed in-house, this website is our latest development. Our expansion continues, this time on the south coast, with Branch 30 opening in Fareham.
